What is Dementia?
Dementia is a term for describing a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. It’s not a specific disease but an overall term that describes a wide range of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person’s ability to perform everyday activities. Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common and accounts for 60 to 80 percent of cases.
How do you know if someone has Dementia?
There is no one test to determine if people have Dementia but they will have symptoms of memory loss. There are multiple stages of Dementia which mean there are different stages of symptoms.
Common symptoms of Dementia?

- Loss of communication and language
- Inability to focus and pay attention
- Loss of reasoning and judgment
- Fuzzy visual perception
What causes Dementia?
Dementia is caused by damaged brain cells. This damage will interfere with the ability of brain cells to communicate with each other. When they cannot communicate normally, thinking, behavior and feelings can be affected.
