Safe Haven Offers Virtual Dementia Tours

If you could experience what it is like to live with Alzheimer’s disease, or dementia, for just a short period of time, it might help you interact with a person suffering from such a mental impairment in a significant way. If you knew, first hand, what it was like to live in a disoriented fog all the time, there is no doubt that your empathy would grow and your ability to communicate with such a person would become more effective.

To help the caregivers and loved ones of people living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia develop a new level of understanding, P. K. Beville of Second Wind Dreams developed a Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) wherein participants use a specially created toolkit that allows them to experience dementia first hand. The state of Georgia is joining Alabama and Texas in offering this tour as a community outreach initiative designed to increase greater understanding and sensitivity toward individuals with dementia.

Safe Haven Senior Living is participating in the community outreach by hosting a VDT once a month; the first tour will take place on January 18th.
