Last month, Elvis came to Safe Haven.

Well, almost.

Our residents were treated to a visit from an Elvis impersonator, bringing music, laughter and a little rock ‘n’ roll into the house. It was one of those afternoons that reminded us why entertainment and wellness are such an important part of life at our Atlanta personal care homes.

Our activity calendar isn’t simply about filling time. It’s about giving residents opportunities to move, socialize, laugh, participate in something they enjoy — and sometimes try something completely unexpected.

Like a rave party. Yes, we really had one!

There’s also a more serious reason behind all that fun. Research supports something many families already understand intuitively: staying socially connected matters as we age. Meaningful relationships and regular positive interactions are associated with better physical and emotional health and a better quality of life. And while we can’t promise that laughing and having a good time will actually keep you young, we certainly think it helps keep us young at heart.

At Safe Haven, our entertainment and wellness program includes a mix of activities designed around the different personalities, interests and abilities of our residents. From music and movement to games, celebrations and special visitors, we want residents to have opportunities to do things they genuinely enjoy.

A Little Something for Everyone

No two months at Safe Haven look exactly alike.

This September, music is definitely in the air. Saxophonist Ignatius will be joining us for two live performances, and Jeanette will visit twice for more live music. Residents can also choose from activities like Music & Motion, Dance & Delight, Paint & Create, Crafty Connections, trivia, bingo, movie afternoons and ice cream and coffee socials.

Movement is part of the calendar throughout the month, too, with activities ranging from Chair Fitness and Balance & Bend to Walk & Talk, Active Aging and Move & Groove. And for residents who enjoy quieter or more reflective time, the calendar includes activities such as Pathways of Faith, Prayer & Praise and art activities.

There really is a little something for everyone.

Some residents want to participate in everything. Others may prefer a quieter activity or simply enjoy watching and listening. That’s okay, too. Our goal isn’t participation for participation’s sake. It’s to create opportunities for connection, enjoyment and purpose while allowing each resident to participate in a way that feels right for them.

And sometimes our residents aren’t the only ones who get in on the fun. During Elvis’s visit, even Miss Annie, our beloved cook, couldn’t resist a dance with the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll!

Wellness can take many forms. Sometimes it’s movement. Sometimes it’s music. Sometimes it’s sitting together, sharing a laugh.

And occasionally, it’s Elvis walking through the front door.
